Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our towing, recovery, mobile mechanic and low loader services across Ireland and the UK.

Recovery & Towing
How quickly can you reach me? +
Response times depend on your location and current workload. For emergency recovery in the Wicklow, Dublin, Wexford and Kildare area we aim to reach you within 30–60 minutes. For locations further away we will give you an accurate ETA when you call.
Do you cover the UK as well as Ireland? +
Yes. East Coast Mechanics operates towing and recovery services across all of Ireland and the United Kingdom, including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We regularly transport vehicles and plant between Ireland and the UK.
Are you available 24 hours a day? +
Yes. Our emergency recovery line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Breakdowns and accidents don't follow office hours — neither do we.
Can you recover a non-running vehicle? +
Yes. Our flatbed and crane-equipped trucks are specifically designed to recover vehicles that cannot be driven. Whether the vehicle has a dead battery, flat tyres, mechanical failure or accident damage, we can recover it safely without causing additional damage.
Can you tow my car to any garage? +
Yes. We can transport your vehicle to any destination you specify — your preferred garage, a dealership, your home or a storage facility anywhere in Ireland or the UK.
Can you recover a vehicle after an accident? +
Yes. Accident recovery is one of our core services. Please ensure emergency services have attended the scene and the road is safe before we arrive. We will then recover the vehicle to your chosen destination.
Do you recover motorcycles? +
Yes. Motorcycles and scooters are recovered using our flatbed. We take care to secure the motorcycle properly to avoid damage during transport.
Do you work with insurance companies? +
Yes. We regularly work alongside insurance companies and fleet operators. If your insurer has authorised a recovery, contact us with your policy details and we will coordinate with them directly if required.
How much does vehicle recovery cost in Ireland? +
Recovery costs depend on the type of vehicle, distance, time of day and complexity of the situation. We provide a quote before any work begins. Call us or fill in our online quote form for a fast estimate tailored to your specific situation.
Heavy Vehicle Recovery
Do you recover trucks and HGVs? +
Yes. We operate an ERF E14 heavy recovery unit capable of recovering fully laden trucks, articulated lorries, buses, coaches and heavy plant. This is specialist work that many recovery operators cannot handle — we can.
Can you recover a bus or coach? +
Yes. Our ERF E14 heavy recovery unit is capable of recovering full-size buses, double-decker buses and coaches. We have experience with both breakdowns and accident-damaged coaches.
Do you transport agricultural and construction machinery? +
Yes. Tractors, combines, diggers and other heavy plant are transported using our low loader. We regularly move machinery between farms, construction sites and dealers across Ireland and the UK.
Winch Out Service
What is a winch-out service? +
A winch-out is a specialist recovery technique for vehicles that have left the road, become stuck in a ditch, sunk in soft ground or mud, or rolled over. We use heavy-duty winching and crane equipment to extract the vehicle safely rather than attempting to tow it conventionally.
Can you recover a rolled or overturned vehicle? +
Yes. We have crane and winching equipment capable of uprighting and recovering overturned vehicles. A safety assessment is always carried out before any extraction attempt to determine the safest approach.
Can you recover agricultural vehicles stuck in fields? +
Yes. Tractors, combines and other agricultural machinery stuck in waterlogged or soft fields are a common job for us — particularly in the winter months in Ireland.
Mobile Mechanic & Roadside Repair
Can you come to my location to repair my vehicle? +
Yes. Our mobile mechanic service brings a fully-equipped workshop to your location. We cover Wicklow, Dublin, Wexford, Kildare and Carlow for on-site repair visits. Many repairs that would normally require a garage can be completed at your home, farm or site.
What roadside repairs can you do? +
Our roadside repair service covers flat tyre changes, battery jump-starts and replacements, minor electrical faults, overheating and coolant issues, broken belts and hoses, and fuel delivery. If the repair cannot be completed roadside, we can then arrange recovery.
What if you can't fix my vehicle at the roadside? +
If a roadside repair is not possible, we will recover the vehicle to a garage or workshop of your choice. We will always let you know the situation clearly and provide a price for recovery before proceeding.
Low Loader Service
What is a low loader service? +
A low loader is a specialist transport trailer used for vehicles and equipment that cannot be towed conventionally — including non-running cars, agricultural machinery, construction plant and oversized vehicles. We provide low loader transport across Ireland and the UK.
Do you transport classic or prestige vehicles? +
Yes. Extra care is taken with classic, vintage and prestige vehicles. We can discuss specific requirements and take additional precautions to ensure the vehicle arrives without any additional damage.
Do you transport loads into the UK? +
Yes. We transport loads between Ireland and all parts of the United Kingdom including Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. Contact us for a quote for cross-border low loader transport.

What vehicles are in your fleet? +
Our fleet includes a Mercedes 814 flatbed for light vehicle recovery, an ERF E14 heavy recovery unit for trucks and buses, and a Dennis mobile workshop truck with a crane for on-site repairs and winch-assisted extractions.
Is there a callout fee? +
